Biografi
Notes for JOHN P. BOX: This is a record of how I and cousin Marge (BOX) Williams researched Johan Patrick Box and family. by Gene Box I started in Linn Co. Missouri with a call to the Linn County Recorders Office in Linneus, MO. Talked to Carol there and asked for any information on the surname BOX. She sent me some Deeds for property near Bucklin, MO. One Deed (Quit Deed) Was notarized in Randolph Co. MO. I asked for help over the internet at Randolph Co. MO. and received a marriage notice for John P. Box and Anna S. Anderson. There was also available the census's on the internet. Searching the 1880 census I found Charles Box, my grandfather. Then in the 1910 and 1920 census in Moberly I found John P. Box and family. The Historical Society and certain members began sending me information which included obituaries for John P. and Anna S. Box. The city directories for Moberly also showed John P. and Anna living at 813 Franklin, the years 1905, 1911 and 1919. The question arose, was John P. Box the Johan Patrick Box that immigrated to Bucklin, Linn Co. MO. with his father Nicholas Box in 1870. I then sent to the archives for John P. Box's death certificate. When it arrived there was no question because on it was listed Nicholas Box as father and Maria (Gadde) Box as mother. In the 1910 census Maria stated she was the mother of 7 children of which 6 were still alive. On their obituaries was 3 daughters in Moberly, 3 daughters in Portland, OR. 2 grandsons in Kansas City, and 1 grandson in Portland. Marge and I then started looking for information in Portland. The city directories for 1924, 25, 27 and 28 showed Edna ( Shirley) and Annette Box. We found marriage record of Frank Tauscher to Shirley Box but all we had was Edna , Annette Box and E. G. Anderson. Also grandson Jack Anderson. SS listed a Shirley Tauscher that had died so I sent for her SS application. On it was Shirley E. Tauscher with her maiden name BOX. Her parents were John P. Box and Anna S. Anderson. She was born in Bucklin, MO. This was 1 daughter. Then a Jack E. Anderson had died in January of 2000. We sent for his SS application and when it arrived he listed his father as Edward G. Anderson and Mother Alice BOX. We were able to get his obituary which had his wife Annette Hart and children. The Oakland Crematory in Portland handled the services. I found their phone number on the internet and called them. They gave me the phone number of Annette Anderson his wife. I then called her and talked, she gave me so much information on the Box girls that had moved to Portland. Emma (BOX) Young had also moved to Portland. She remarried to Joseph Hollingsworth. So we have Shirley E. (BOX) Tauscher, Alice (BOX) Anderson, Annette Box in Portland area. Esther (BOX) Maxwell and Clara (BOX) Maupin in Moberly, MO. that's 6 girls. In July, 2000 I had the opportunity to visit Annette Anderson in Portland. She had an old bible that was her mother in law's. There was dates and other information in it, also an old business card with the name Mrs. G. F. Stanfill. There was the name Freda Box in the bible and Annette said she was the 7th Girl of John and Anna Box. She had 2 boys Aubrey and Willard Stanfill the grandsons mentioned in the obituaries of John and Anna. The date of Freda's death was Oct 28, 1906. Alice (BOX) Anderson lived with Jack and Annette after the death of Edward, her husband. Annette passed on some information to me when I saw her. Alice thought Nicholas Box may have been originally from Scotland or Wales. The name could have been Bach, Bocks or Books. On the death certificate of John P. Box it listed his father as Nicholas Box, birthplace Scotland. Will we ever know? Annette gave me some photos to take home and get copied. Annette (Hart) Anderson had three children with Jack her husband. Jan, Neil and Kirk. He had 1 daughter by a previous marriage, Barbara Anderson Ward. None of Annette's children had children. Barbara had 4 children so the descendants of John P. Box continue. More About JOHN P. BOX: Census 1880: June 01, 1880, John P. is listed as Head with wife Anna and children Emma, Alfreda and Alice in Bloomington IL.
